PREP & AFTERCARE

Taking care of your skin before and after your appointment is an important part of the tattoo process, helping the artwork heal beautifully and last well over time.

BEFORE YOUR TATTOO

✺ ✺ ✺

Preparing for your tattoo can make a big difference in how smooth and comfortable the appointment feels. The tattoo you’re getting is a piece of art, and your skin is my canvas. Here are some recommended steps to take before your appointment:

  • As soon as you can, start moisturising the tattoo area twice a day until the day of your appointment; any cream or oil will do.

  • Try to avoid sun exposure on the area being tattooed to prevent irritation or sunburn. If it's the case, the appointment might need to be rescheduled.

  • On the day of your tattoo, come in well-rested and try to avoid caffeinated beverages or alcohol; instead, focus on staying hydrated.

  • Eat a good meal before your appointment to keep your blood sugar stable and help you sit comfortably through the session. Bring snacks or a sugary drink, especially for longer sessions, in case you need an energy boost.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed, and preferably something dark in case of ink stains

  • Please don’t shave the area yourself. I will prepare the skin properly before we start.

  • Shower before your appointment so the skin is clean and ready to work on.

  • Feel free to bring headphones, a book, snacks, water, even a blanket, anything that will help you feel comfortable in the space. Keep in mind, there will usually be other artists and their clients around.

AFTERCARE

✺ ✺ ✺

How you care for your tattoo is just as important as creating it. Here’s how you can make sure your tattoo heals as well as possible:

  • Once we’re done with your appointment, I´ll wrap your tattoo. You can remove this wrapping after 2 hours, making sure you’re in a clean, hygienic environment so you can give it a proper wash.

  • Gently wash the tattoo with natural or fragrance-free soap and warm water, then gently dab it dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

  • Wear clean clothing and always make sure your hands are clean before touching your tattoo. Remember that your tattoo is essentially an open wound and should be treated with care.

  • You can start applying your chosen aftercare ointment the morning after your appointment, reapplying every 3 to 4 hours. Continue until the tattoo has fully healed. I recommend using kawa kawa balm or paw paw ointment.

Your tattoo can take around 10 to 15 days to heal. During this time, there are a few things to avoid:

  • Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight, as sunburn can slow the healing process and damage the tattoo.

  • Avoid swimming, saunas, baths, or anything that will soak the tattoo for prolonged periods. Soaking the tattoo can increase the risk of infection and affect how the ink heals. Showers are completely fine.

  • Avoid heavy exercise and tight clothing that might stick to the tattoo and cause irritation. If you do work out, make sure to clean your tattoo thoroughly after sweating.

  • Your tattoo may become dry, and the top layer of skin will likely peel. This is a normal part of the healing process. Do not pick or scratch the skin; let it heal naturally.
